The tabby cat, who used to look unfriendly, started getting a lot of adoption offers after its profile on PetFinder became popular due to a tweet that was shared on Thanksgiving Day.
The power of social media has played a crucial role in finding a new loving home for Fishtopher, an adorable five-year-old rescue cat who adores chin rubs. Thanks to a tweet by @mollyaclarke, who shared his Petfinder profile, people became aware that Fishtopher suffered from sadness and depression, and would only eat when he was accompanied. Laura Folts and Tanner Callahan drove 100 miles to Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center in New Jersey to adopt him. They arrived an hour before the center opened and had to compete with eight other potential adopters to win his heart. The shelter was overwhelmed with hundreds of messages from animal lovers who were touched by Fishtopher’s story.
Folts and their partner were excited about adopting Fishtopher from the Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center, even though they were aware of other cats available online. They arrived early to be first in line, but learned that Fishtopher had already found a new home. The Baltimore duo later found out that the shelter had wished Fishtopher well on social media and gently reminded potential adopters about other animals awaiting homes. Fishtopher is now happily adjusting to his new home in Maryland, and his new owners have even started a Twitter account dedicated to sharing his ongoing adventures.
